Danqing (Katherine*) Liang
Her designs focus on delivering messages in the most articulate and engaging ways. She designs for the future, embracing speculative approaches that challenge conventions and imagine new possibilities. Just as her paintings tell compelling visual stories, her design work envisions alternative futures, using aesthetics and narrative to shape how we perceive what’s to come.

“AQUASCAPING ENCYCLOPEDIA”

5.5 x 8.5 inches
Photographed in 2024

Aquascaping Encyclopedia is a comprehensive guide to the art and science of aquascaping, offering an in-depth exploration of techniques, styles, and materials used to create stunning underwater landscapes.

This book goes beyond traditional formats, integrating transparent sheets that reveal the layered construction of an aquascape step by step, allowing readers to visually experience the intricate process of building a thriving aquatic environment. Encased in a custom-designed clear acrylic bookcase that mirrors the form of a fish tank, this edition blurs the boundaries between knowledge and experience, making it not just an encyclopedia but an immersive, tactile journey into the world of aquascaping.

涩 “A COLLECTION OF DESIRE AND SEXUALITY”

5 x 7 inches
Photographed in 2024

is an exploration of desire, an intimate, multifaceted force that shapes human experience. This collection unravels my understanding of longing, beginning with sexual desire, one of the most fundamental instincts shared by all living beings.

Through a blend of visual and textual narratives, the book delves into the tension between indulgence and restraint, the complexity of attraction, and the nuanced ways desire manifests in our lives. Neither purely explicit nor entirely restrained,  expressed in the in-between, embracing the raw, the vulnerable, and the unspoken.

“ORDER AND DISORDER”
2025 Master Degree Thesis Topic & Exhibitions

My thesis project is a graphic and media exploration into the tension between “Order” and “Disorder”. I explore the notion of order by deconstructing traditional design practices. During this process I created a series of books, posters, installations, video, sound, and sculptures in a color scheme of black and white. Each medium will challenge the readability and functionality of the default system that we currently experiencing. It is also in a territory of exploring the tension in between transition and instability.
“ALMOST THERE.”
Video, 2025

The motorway is a space of structure and control, yet disorder exists in every moment, both externally and internally. Commuting is a daily activity, mundane, repetitive, and governed by societal expectations. This installation explores the tension between order and disorder within this transitional journey. Time is the invisible force that keeps everything moving forward, dictating both societal and personal rhythms. Within this rigid framework, lapses occur, boredom, drifting thoughts, and fleeting detachment from reality.

One video filmed using a body-worn camera and a dashcam, reflects my shifting mental state during the commute, moments of focus, distraction, and disconnection. In contrast, a second video presents an unedited 20-minute dashcam recording, mirroring the monotonous reality I endure each day.

“TRAFFIC VISUALIZATION”
Public Installation,  Photography, 2025
14 x 28 inches

A symbol of order and control, the traffic cone dictates boundaries, directs movement, and enforces regulation. Disordered Traffic Cones subverts this authority, reimagining the familiar form in black and clear acrylic, materials that strip it of its usual function. No longer bright and directive, these cones exist in a state of ambiguity, disrupting expectations of visibility, safety, and guidance. Are they barriers or invitations? Markers of restriction or disruption? By distorting both material and meaning, Disordered Traffic Cones challenges the illusion of control in constructed environments, exposing the fragility of imposed order.

“DISORDER TIME”
Installation, 2025
3D Modeling, PLA prints

In a world obsessed with precision and progress, this piece disrupts the expectation of clarity and control, transforming time into an enigma. Is it flowing? Has it stopped? Disorder Hourglass challenges the need for visibility, embracing uncertainty and questioning our reliance on structured time in an inherently chaotic world.

“IN MY KITCHEN”
Installation, 2025
8.5 x 11 inches, acrylic board, laser printing

Why do we organize and hide things? What if there is a gun on the kitchen table? Even it was unloaded, does it still have the right to remain visible?

BRANDINGS
beeans

Branding Design
2025

beeans is a toy brand that focuses on the reuse of fabric waste from the fast fashion industry.

Founded in 2025, beeans is dedicated to transforming leftover textile scraps into meaningful and lovable creations. We encourage people to repurpose what would otherwise be discarded into simple, fun, and uniquely expressive bean-shaped toys, turning waste into warmth and imagination.

Each beeans toy is made from second-hand fabrics, thoroughly sanitized to ensure safety and hygiene. Beyond retail, we are actively working on charitable initiatives to donate toys to children in underprivileged regions who may not have access to such companions. At beeans, we strongly believe that #grownupsneedtoys too. That's why we proudly position ourselves as an all-ages toy brand, offering playful comfort, creativity, and emotional connection for everyone, young or grown.

Visually, our brand identity is built on the core shape of a bean, minimal, abstract, and easy to recreate, brought to life with a pair of expressive eyes. Alongside the beeans logo, we've developed a comprehensive visual system that includes brand graphics, color palettes, layouts, typography, and material textures. This system consistently communicates beeans' personality: eco-friendly, comforting, lighthearted, and a little quirky.

From packaging to campaigns to hands-on workshops, every touchpoint of beeans invites people to reconnect with their inner child, and imagine a world where play, sustainability, and kindness coexist, one soft bean at a time.
